Why choose Valley Windows Halifax?

Valley Windows Halifax is run directly by Steven Child, who learned the trade the hard way, twelve years working in uPVC window and door manufacturing before he took his first fitting job on. After three years fitting for one of the big window companies, he set up Valley Windows so customers could deal with one honest, experienced fitter from start to finish.

That background matters. Steven knows windows and doors from the inside out, which means he can spot problems early, recommend the right product for the job, and tell you straight when something isn't worth doing. No hard sell, no upselling for the sake of it, no promising things that can't be delivered.

Every job gets the same treatment, proper measure, honest quote, quality product, tidy install. We use Ultion 3-star Kitemark locks as standard on entry doors, fit to UK Building Regulations on every job, and stand behind our own workmanship.

If you're tired of being sold the world by pushy sales teams, that's exactly why Valley Windows exists. Straight-talking, no-nonsense window and door fitting across Halifax and West Yorkshire.

Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What areas do you cover?

We cover Halifax and the surrounding West Yorkshire area, typically within a 20 mile radius of HX2. Towns we work in regularly include Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Brighouse, Elland, Sowerby Bridge, Todmorden, Huddersfield, Bradford, Keighley and the smaller villages in between. If you're unsure whether we come to you, call 01422 752025 and we'll confirm.

How long have you been trading?

Steven has been working with windows and doors for over fifteen years, starting out on the manufacturing side of the trade for twelve years before moving into installation. Valley Windows Halifax was set up so customers could deal with one experienced fitter from first measure to final clean-up.

Are you insured?

Yes. We carry full public liability insurance for every job, and all our installations are fitted to UK Building Regulations. We'll happily show proof of insurance before we start work on your property.

Do you offer free quotes?

Yes. Every quote is free and no-obligation. We come out to measure, talk through options in person, and give you a written price. Call 01422 752025 or use the quote form and we'll be in touch within one working day.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

No. We don't charge anything to come out, measure up, and give you a written quote. You only pay when you're happy with the price and you've agreed to the job.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept bank transfers and cash. For larger projects we can agree a staged payment plan, typically a deposit before ordering materials and the balance on completion. Card payments may be available on request.

What styles of uPVC windows do you fit?

Casement windows (top-hung or side-hung openers), bay windows for period and contemporary properties, and vertical sliding sash windows for homes wanting the classic sash look without the maintenance of timber. We talk you through the options during the quote visit.

Do you remove the old windows?

Yes. Old frame removal, safe disposal and full clean-up are included as standard. We make sure the property is left tidy at the end of each day so you're not living in a building site.

How long does a window install take?

Most full-house window jobs take one to three days depending on the size of the property and the number of windows. A single window or two-window replacement is usually a same-day job. We'll always give you a realistic timeline during the quote so you can plan around the work.

Do the windows come with a guarantee?

Yes. All the windows we fit come with a manufacturer-backed guarantee covering the frames, sealed units and hardware. We also stand behind our own installation work, so if anything isn't right we'll come back and sort it.

Are composite doors secure?

Yes. The composite doors we fit use multi-point hook locking, anti-drill cylinders and reinforced frames as standard. We fit Ultion 3-star Kitemark cylinders on every composite door, which are approved under Secured by Design and recommended by the Master Locksmiths Association.

How long does a composite door installation take?

A single front door change typically takes between half a day and a full day depending on any frame adjustments or threshold work needed. We'll confirm the timing during the quote visit once we've seen the existing door and frame.

What finishes and colours are available?

Composite doors come in a wide range of colours and timber-grain finishes, from classic whites and blacks to anthracite greys and traditional reds and greens. We bring sample boards to the quote visit so you can see and feel the finishes in person before you commit.

Can you replace just the door, keeping my existing frame?

Sometimes, yes, depending on the condition, age and type of the existing frame. We'll check during the quote visit and give you a straight answer. If the frame needs replacing too we'll explain why, and factor it into the price.

When should I choose uPVC over composite?

uPVC doors suit back doors, utility rooms, and budget front doors where security and aesthetics still matter but price is a bigger factor. Composite is the premium choice with better thermal performance and a more traditional look. uPVC is still a solid, secure option at a lower price point.

How long does a uPVC door last?

A well-fitted uPVC door will typically give you fifteen to twenty-five years of service with minimal maintenance. Quality matters, we use quality hinges, locks and frames that stand up to everyday use, not the cheapest spec on the market.

Are uPVC doors energy efficient?

Yes. Modern uPVC doors meet current UK Building Regulations for thermal performance and use sealed double-glazed panels as standard. They're a significant upgrade over any door more than 15 years old.

What colours and styles do you offer?

Plenty. Most customers go for white, anthracite grey or a woodgrain finish such as rosewood or golden oak. We bring sample boards to the quote visit so you can see the finishes in person.

How many panels do bi-fold doors have?

Bi-fold systems typically run from 2 panels up to 7. We recommend a configuration based on your opening width and how you want to use the space. Some customers prefer a traffic door for everyday use; others want the full opening for weekend entertaining.

Are bi-fold doors secure?

Yes. The systems we fit have multi-point locking, anti-lift features, and toughened double glazing as standard. They're as secure as any standard door when closed and locked, and the hardware is specifically designed to resist forced entry along the track.

How much do bi-fold doors cost?

Bi-fold pricing depends heavily on size, number of panels, glazing spec and frame material. For most domestic installations, expect pricing to start from around £3,000 fitted. We'll give you a clear, fixed quote after we've measured and talked through the spec.

Can bi-folds be installed into an existing opening?

Often yes, provided the opening is structurally suitable and the threshold can accommodate the running track. We'll survey the opening during the quote and tell you exactly what's possible, and flag any structural work needed before we can fit.

What's the difference between patio doors and French doors?

Patio doors slide horizontally on a track, great for maximising clear glass area in a smaller footprint. French doors are hinged and swing open like a pair of traditional doors. Patio suits modern extensions and small living rooms; French doors suit traditional properties or where a symmetrical look matters.

Are sliding patio doors draughty?

Not the modern ones. Current sliding patio systems use multi-point locking and proper brush seals, so they're well-insulated and draught-free when closed. The issue with draughty patio doors almost always comes from worn-out old systems, a modern replacement makes a noticeable difference.

How secure are sliding patio doors?

The systems we fit use multi-point hook locks, anti-lift mechanisms and toughened double glazing. Anti-lift stops the door being levered off the track, which is the classic attack on old patio doors. Properly specified, patio doors are as secure as any other exterior door.

Can you fit patio doors into a new opening?

Yes, as long as the structural work is completed by a competent builder. We handle the door supply, fit and glazing. We're happy to work alongside your builder or recommend trusted locals if you need one.

Do I need planning permission for a conservatory?

Most conservatories fall under Permitted Development and don't need planning permission, but it depends on size, position and property type. Listed buildings, flats, and homes in conservation areas have different rules. We'll flag any concerns during the quote visit and recommend you check with your local planning office if in doubt.

What styles of conservatory do you build?

We take on standard uPVC conservatories including lean-to, Victorian and Edwardian shapes, which are the most common styles on West Yorkshire properties. For more complex orangery-style builds or large extensions, we're happy to quote and work alongside a builder on the groundwork and roof.

How long does a conservatory build take?

Most conservatories take two to four weeks depending on the groundwork, base construction and the weather. The uPVC and glazing stage is typically the quickest part; groundwork and brickwork take most of the time. We'll give you a realistic timeline during the quote.

Do you handle the base and building work?

We can include the base and building work in a full quote, or we can work alongside a builder of your choosing. Our specialism is the uPVC frames, glazing and roof system. Groundwork and brickwork can be priced separately or bundled into one quote, whichever suits you.
